STATEMENT OF CONCERN ON REDD+ IN CENTRAL KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA: Indigenous Peoples Alliance of Archipelago – Central Kalimantan Chapter

We, the members of the Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago -­‐Central Kalimantan Chapter (AMAN Central Kalimantan) conducted on June 16-­‐17, 2011 our Strategic Meeting to address concerns and problems related to REDD+ in the Central Kalimantan’s Provincial Spatial Plan. The Meeting was attended by members of the Local and Regional Chapters of AMAN Central Kalimantan and Indigenous Leaders from eleven districts.

We, the participants of the first congress, recognize that adat community undergoes marginalization and neglection from the process of development in relation to the expansion of palm oil plantation, mining, decentralisation, military infrastructure activities and logging concession in which these activities do not respect and recognize adat community rights and cause human rights violations in the land of Papua.

Sinar Resmi Declaration, 8th August 2009

The Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) held a national consultation of indigenous communities from 5-8 August 2009 on Climate Change and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). This was followed by AMAN’s national strategic meeting. The participants at these two gatherings were AMAN’s founders, all members of AMAN’s Council and the Executive Board plus regional and local executive and council members.
